Notes from K of C Meeting on January 7, 2013

The meeting was started at 7:30 and Fr. Tim led with a prayer.  About 28 Brothers were in attendance and 10 of 15 officers were present, with one excused absence. 

Recorder’s report:  The minutes from last month’s meeting were read and approved.

The Grand Knight Reported as follows:  There were no new applications.

  • Sean Jordan who transferred into the Council from Ohio was introduced.
  • Jay Woodman who is a new council member was also introduced.

Treasurer’s report: The report was read and approved.

The following communications were read:  A thank-you note from Nancy Corcoran was read, thanking the council for the Poinsettia that was delivered to her and Brother Tom Corcoran.

  • A thank-you note was received from Angel Flight NE for the donation that was made to their program that flies seriously ill people to hospitals around the county.
  • A letter was received from Matt Wilichowski who is raising money for his Eagle Scout project which consists of improving the tables at the Community Harvest in Grafton that raises food for the Worcester Food Bank.
  • A thank-you note was also received from Joe Rice who is the seminarian that the council has adopted and is helping though the RSVP program.  

Financial Secretary’s Report:  Jay Woodman has made his first degree.

  • Total membership is now at 145, and we’ve only achieved 10% of our goal of 10 new members for this fraternal year.
  • The Catholic Men’s conference will be held again this year at the DCU center on March 16th.
  • On April 6th there will be a testimonial for Rob Morrison at our council 85 Hall.
  • The questionnaire soliciting inputs on fraternal, church and community activities has been sent out and responses need to be sent to PGK Guido Lonardo by January 25th, so the data can be compiled and sent to Supreme.   All are asked to send their forms to him, even if there is no activity to report.

Unfinished Business: Over 25 coats were received and distributed to children in Westborough as part of the Coats For Kids project.

  • Greg Kristan has added to the Council’s website an advertisement for hall rentals that has links from queries to hall rentals in Westborough.
  • Rich McDonald reported on the trip to Worcester State Hospital before Christmas.  Gifts purchased by Ed McTighe and his wife, were distributed to the young people; they also provided an interesting tour of the new facility.

 
Committee Reports:  Jim O’Connor asked for volunteers to help out at the Free Throw contest to be held at the Gibbons Middle School on Tuesday January 15th.  Registration will start at 6:00.

New Business:  Stan G. thanked the Corp for funding the collation that was put together for after the meeting, during the Notre Dame - Alabama championship game.

  • A vote of confidence was voted on and approved to purchase 10 tickets to the annual Catholic Men’s Conference.
  •  A motion was made and approved to donate $100 to Matt Wilichowski’s Eagle Scout project.

District Deputy report:  The District Deputy/Grand Knights’ Conference was held and the main theme this year is on increasing membership, which has been declining.

Under the Good of the Order:  Prayers are still requested for Brother Joe Paul.

The Chaplains summation:  Fr. Tim emphasized the importance of proudly wearing K of C colors and emblems, to show people we are proud to be members, especially since Council 85 is so active in the community.

Father Tim led the closing prayer and the meeting concluded at 8:30.  The meeting was followed by the Notre Dame vs. Alabama national championship game.  Although the game was disappointing in its outcome, the fellowship and fraternalism of the members who attended was great.
